arliss: (write in book)
[personal profile] arliss posting in [community profile] paperjournals
I'm a boring journaler--I rarely sketch or draw in my journals. I write with a fountain pen--one of many, and use colored inks to suit my mood. But the writing itself is pretty straightforward and unimaginative in appearance.

Like most teenaged girls, I kept diaries off and on, either in one of those books with a lock and key, or in a spiral notebook. I grew out of the habit. I had part of my paper planner sectioned off with blank notebook paper for “notes”, and found myself journaling—my planner was always with me, so I could write in the moment rather than waiting for a time alone. (I found myself using card stock, glue, and images clipped from catalogues and magazines to decorate and inspire my planner, though!)

As I filled pages, I replaced them with fresh paper, and then needed a way to store the filled pages. I turned to cheap report covers. They look so utilitarian, and the page edges visible when the filled covers were shelved were unattractive. So, giftwrap and spray glue. I cut and covered card stock to fit between the front and back covers as a spine to cover the page edges, and glued in a ribbon bookmark.

Once committed to the practice of journaling and archiving, I had nice paper cut and hole-punched to fit my planner binder. Unfortunately before I filled it all, I was given a few blank books as presents. I changed jobs, and no longer had my planner with me all the time, so it was easier to switch to the blank books for journaling.
